Sligo Rovers 1-1 Cliftonville

Cliftonville and Sligo Rovers played out a 1-1 draw in this evening’s friendly at The Showgrounds.

Conor McMenamin levelled for the Reds after Niall Watson had netted for the hosts in what was the visitors’ penultimate outing ahead of the Danske Bank Premiership’s imminent return.

Paddy McLaughlin made 10 changes to the side that enjoyed a 7-0 victory over Crumlin United 48 hours earlier, with Ronan Wilson the only player to start both games during what is a busy week of pre-season action.

Goalless at the interval, the deadlock was broken on 56 minutes when Watson steered beyond Reds goalkeeper Richard Brush, for whom this was virtually a home match.

Cliftonville hit back on 68 minutes, however, when McMenamin followed up after Thomas Maguire had seen his shot blocked to ensure a keenly-contested encounter ended level.

Cliftonville: Brush, Ives, McDermott, Gorman, McMenamin, Bagnall, R Curran, Maguire, Doherty, Gormley, Wilson. Subs: R Donnelly, A Donnelly, Breen, Harney, Foster, Harkin.
