Train check

Cliftonville were back on the training pitch yesterday ahead of their return to action tomorrow night.

Barry Gray’s side welcome Derry City to Solitude for a pre-season friendly that, in addition to stepping up the Reds’ preparations for the Europa League, will also see the Candystripes ease back into the swing of things just three days after a defeat to Shamrock Rovers signalled the end of the League of Ireland’s summer adjournment.

Following a month’s break, Cliftonville returned to training on June 13 and have undergone a series of intense sessions in the three-and-a-half weeks since as the countdown to the upcoming European clashes with FC Nordsjælland continues apace. Tomorrow’s encounter with the Candystripes – who face Dinamo Minsk in the First Qualifying Round of the Europa League – will be the first of two friendlies against opposition from the Airtricity League, with Shelbourne set to welcome the Reds to Tolka Park next Sunday.
