Conn do spirit

Cliftonville’s Caoimhin McConnell was on target for Northern Ireland Schoolboys in their Centenary Shield draw with Wales this afternoon.

Having hit the post earlier in the game, McConnell – one of three Reds in the starting XI, alongside goalkeeper Declan Dunne and defender Aaron Donnelly – opened the scoring at Holm Park when he was quickest to react after the visiting keeper had repelled a strike from Andy Scott.

Wales levelled in the second period to earn a share of the spoils, forcing Northern Ireland to settle for another stalemate following last Friday night’s scoreless draw in Scotland.
