Rory Donnelly says Cliftonville must use tomorrow’s Danske Bank Premiership battle with Dungannon Swifts to reignite their season after a frustrating month.

The Reds saw a seven-game winning streak halted just before Christmas and attempts to rediscover that formula have been thwarted by a combination of misfortune, inclement weather and the concession of an injury-time equaliser against Glenavon last time out.

Donnelly – who boasts an admirable scoring record against the Swifts – expects this weekend’s opponents to provide another serious test of Cliftonville’s credentials.

“We’re looking forward to getting back onto the pitch again and hopefully my scoring run against Dungannon continues,” says the 25-year-old.

“It was nice to get a hat-trick at Stangmore Park in October but Dungannon aren’t an easy team to play against and they will come to make things difficult for us. It’s an important game because over the Christmas period we didn’t pick up too many points and we were disappointed with that.”

You can read the full Donnelly interview in tomorrow’s edition of our Matchday Magazine, which will be on sale at Solitude for £2.50.

Alongside boss Barry Gray’s pre-game views, The Red Eye’s latest issue casts a glance at how Dungannon continue to upset the odds, provides your latest player poster and steps 84, 67 and 17 years back down memory lane – plus plenty more besides.

Our Matchday Magazine has attained a top-three position in the NI Football Programme Collectors’ annual awards poll for the last six seasons so, if you’re not a regular reader, why not take a look at what you’ve been missing out on?
