Good as New

Barry Gray expects a competitive contest with Newry City in tonight’s Solitude friendly (7.45pm).

Cliftonville continued their pre-season preparations with victory over a Swansea City XI at the weekend and the Manager wants his men to build on that impressive display when the NI Football League Championship newcomers visit this evening.

“Newry will want to show well,” says Gray.

“They have a lot of experience and quality. We need to approach it in the same manner that we approached Saturday’s game and not be disrespectful in that manner.

“We want to win this game and we want to win every game, but the priority will be getting into a good shape. From the defensive point of view, see if we can work a wee bit more in terms of what we did well on Saturday and see if we can battle up some of the things that we weren’t so happy with”.

“It will be a competitive game with a bit of edge to it – maybe more than some of the other games may have had because of the nature of Newry, me and the ex-players that will be there”.
