Double trouble

Peter McKiernan and Calvin McCurry struck doubles as Cliftonville Olympic maintained their six point lead at the top of the Premiership Development League with a 6-3 victory over Carrick Rangers Reserves at Solitude last night.

The deadlock was broken after just 30 seconds when McCurry teed Stephen Garrett up for a tap-in at the back post.

McCurry was also involved in the move that saw McKiernan (pictured) make it 2-0 before the visitors pulled one back with 36 minutes on the clock.

The Olympic extended their advantage at the start of the second-half when McKiernan headed home a Garrett cross before assuming the role of provider to set McCurry up to make it 4-1 shortly afterwards.

Carrick found the net for a second time only for McCurry to restore the Reds’ three-goal lead, with Padraig Slane adding the hosts’ sixth before an injury-time free-kick saw the Gers register a consolation strike.
