Reds are flat out

Linfield 1-0 Cliftonville

Cliftonville slipped out of the League Cup following a flat performance in this evening’s Quarter Final clash with Linfield at Windsor Park.

After going close through Joe Gormley early on, the Reds found themselves behind when Joel Cooper blasted through a crowded goalmouth following Chris Curran’s goal-line clearance.

Richard Brush then saved Shayne Lavery’s penalty kick, with a host of Linfield follow-ups blocked on the line – with the first rebound having arguably crept in before Aaron Donnelly’s intervention.

Even so, the incident failed to really spark Cliftonville and it took until late in the second period before the visitors mounted any sort of rally, with Gormley nodding over ahead of Thomas Maguire going close in a last-gasp scramble on a night when the Reds failed to find their groove.
