A Ronan battle

Ronan Wilson says he’s focused on working as hard as he can to play his way into the Cliftonville line-up ahead of tomorrow’s Danske Bank Premiership clash with Institute.

The Drumahoe outfit visit Solitude for boss Sean Connor’s first game at the helm – a situation which Wilson believes will ensure his former employers are reinvigorated for battle.

“It will be a tricky game,” says the 21-year-old. “With a new Manager, I’m sure it will give Institute a lift. It will be tough and they’ll be dogged.”

On his own prospects for his first season at Cliftonville, Wilson – who has made 10 appearances since signing in the summer – adds: “I’m improving my game and I’m playing better every week.

“My target now is to try and get in the starting XI every Saturday and keep myself there.”

You can read the full Wilson interview in this tomorrow’s edition of our Matchday Magazine, which will be on sale at Solitude for £3.

Featuring Paddy McLaughlin’s pre-match views, The Red Eye’s seventh issue of the campaign reflects on new Stute gaffer Connor’s colourful career and steps 124, 56 and 10 years back down memory lane – plus plenty more besides.

Our Matchday Magazine has attained a top-three position in the NI Football Programme Collectors’ annual awards poll for the last eight seasons – assuming the runners-up position on six of those occasions – so, if you’re not a regular reader, why not take a look at what you’ve been missing out on?
