Cliftonville’s Foyle Cup-winning Under 10 side were our special guests at Solitude for last Saturday’s Danske Bank Premiership fixture with Linfield.
The Wee Reds took to the pitch for a half-time parade of the trophy they won during the summer and were only too pleased to lap up applause from the fans.
After kicking their Foyle Cup campaign off with a 3-0 victory over Swilly Rovers, Cliftonville completed the first day of action by getting the better of Strabane Athletic Colts.
Day two saw Newtowne Youth beaten 6-1 ahead of a hard-fought 3-2 success against Illistrin at Oakgrave and, despite losing 2-1 to Phoenix Athletic the following day, the Reds bounced back to beat Ballymoney Youth 1-0 and Bertie Peacock Youth 5-0.
Those results set up a clash with Carryduff Colts, which was won 3-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw to book progress to the decider with Dungannon United Youth, which ended with our young stars hoisting the silverware aloft thanks to a 1-0 victory.
The Club repeats our congratulations to not just our Under 10 players but also their dedicated coaches and proud parents, who no doubt share our hope that these young stars will have plenty more honours to display at Solitude in the years to come.
