Aaron Donnelly believes Cliftonville are capable of bouncing back from Friday’s farce by getting the better of Glenavon at Solitude this evening.

The Solitude contest comes just over a fortnight after the sides played out an edge-of-the-seat 1-1 draw and, just 72 hours on from a 6-4 defeat to Ballinamallard United, Donnelly – who has featured in both previous meetings with the Lurgan Blues this term but sat out the weekend’s horror show in Fermanagh – knows the importance of pocketing three Danske Bank Premiership points.

“It’s a big game against Glenavon, especially with it being on Sky and we’re looking forward to it,” says the 17-year-old.

“Hopefully the lads can go out and do it and get the win to narrow the gap on Glenavon.

“We got a good result against Dungannon last week and it was great to jump into fourth place ahead of Linfield and climb up the table again.”

You can read the full Donnelly interview in tonight’s edition of our Matchday Magazine, which will be on sale at Solitude for £2.50.

Alongside boss Barry Gray’s pre-game views, The Red Eye’s latest issue reflects on Cliftonville’s history of televised fixtures, provides your latest player poster and steps 137, 46 and 10 years back down memory lane – plus plenty more besides.

Our Matchday Magazine has attained a top-three position in the NI Football Programme Collectors’ annual awards poll for the last six seasons so, if you’re not a regular reader, why not take a look at what you’ve been missing out on?

Don’t forget, too, that a small amount of copies of the edition produced for this fixture’s original date – including an unpublished interview with Ross Lavery – are available for the reduced price of just £1.
