For the second time in as many Sports Direct Premiership fixtures, three unanswered first-half goals were enough to earn Cliftonville victory this evening.

Just as they had done against Glenavon on Saturday, the Reds made a bright start against Newry City and were rewarded when Luke Turner scrambled the ball home following a corner.

Ben Wilson then pounced for his first goal for the Club ahead of substitute Rory Hale – introduced in place of the injured Joe Gormley – claiming what proved the final strike of the evening.

Both sides had the ball in the net during the second period and, though Newry’s was disallowed for possession having drifted out of play in the build-up, Sean Stewart was less than impressed with the offside flag that denied him a second goal in two appearances.

Cliftonville: Gartside, Stewart, Addis, Gallagher (C Curran, 72 mins), Lowe, Robinson, Doherty, Gormley (Rory Hale, 17 mins), Casey (Pepper, 72 mins), Turner, Wilson (Berry, 79 mins). Unused subs: Odumosu, McDonagh, McGuinness.
