Double delight

It wasn’t just the NI Football League’s Women’s Football Awards that saw Cliftonville Ladies emerge with a trophy double at the weekend, with Caitlin McGuinness and Charlotte Havern also claiming top honours from the Professional Footballers Association.

McGuinness was named PFA NI Player of the Year following a stellar campaign that saw her score 18 goals en route to the Reds being crowned Sports Direct Women’s Premiership Champions – and, with Saturday’s Irish Cup Final to come, she will no doubt have designs on delivering on the big stage yet again.

Team-mate Havern was, meanwhile, nominated as the PFA’s Young Player of the Year after making a significant contribution throughout her first season at Solitude.

The 17-year-old midfielder, who made her first senior appearances for Northern Ireland Women in the recent World Cup Play-Offs with Portugal, has been a consistent performer for Brendan Lynch’s side and will likewise be eager to sign off for the season by helping Cliftonville to Cup glory this weekend.

The Reds take on Glentoran Women at the Clearer Twist Stadium on Saturday night and tickets for the occasion – which cost just £7.50 for Adults and £5 for Concessions – are available via Ticketmaster.
