There was debut delight for Cliftonville as new boys Ben Quinn and Dean McMaster found the net to seal North Belfast Derby victory on the opening night of the new Boyle Sports Premiership season.
Quinn converted from close range after just 11 minutes and, after seeing Rhyss Campbell, Rory Hale and Brian Healy go close to doubling the lead before half-time, the Reds’ dominance was eventually further rewarded when McMaster picked his spot with a free-kick from the edge of the area.
Hale and Joe Gormley almost extended the hosts’ advantage further before a madcap finale saw Elliott Dunlop pull a goal back for the Crues in injury-time ahead of Alex Bannon’s clearance easing the nerves caused by a last-gasp goalmouth scramble.
