Cliftonville Ladies 3-1 Glentoran Women

Cliftonville Ladies battled from behind to score a vital win over Glentoran Women in this evening’s Sports Direct Women’s Premiership clash at Solitude.

Entering the contest two points clear of their opponents at the top of the table but having played a game more, the Reds knew the importance of claiming a victory on home turf and, in a bright opening period, saw both Vicky Carleton and Kirsty McGuinness strike the woodwork in the first-half.

Those near misses came back to haunt them, however, when Gracie Conway volleyed the Glens in front four minutes after the interval.

Cliftonville were level before the hour, though, when Teegan Lynch – who had seen a headed effort disallowed at 0-0 – tucked home a 58th minute equaliser before bagging her second of the night from Caitlin McGuinness’ assist soon later.

The Reds then opened up some welcome daylight between themselves and the visitors 10 minutes from time when, from another Caitlin McGuinness pass, Louise McDaniel fired home for 3-1.
