Addis moves on

Cliftonville Football Club offers sincere thanks and best wishes to Jonny Addis, who has taken the decision to move on this summer.

A member of our 2024 Irish Cup winning side who also celebrated two BetMcLean Cup successes during his time with the Reds, Jonny scored 19 goals in 227 appearances after joining from Ballymena United in June 2021.

A huge fan favourite during his time at Solitude, the 33-year-old central defender collected the Club’s Player of the Year award at the end of his first season with Cliftonville as well as being voted Players’ Player of the Year by his team-mates.

Though noted for his exploits at the back, he claimed the Goal of the Season accolade for the 2023/24 term courtesy of an outrageous long-range strike against Newry City and took the same honour in 2025/26 for February’s injury-time winner in the Irish Cup victory over Glenavon.

Confirming his departure, he said: “I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone involved at the Club – the Board, players, staff and fans.

“I loved working under both Paddy when I first signed and, since then, Jim. Both have done an unbelievable job to keep us competitive and give me the best days of my career.

“I’ll leave with memories that will go with me for the rest of my life. The League Cup wins were special, but ending 45 years of Irish Cup heartache definitely tops the lot.

“In between, there’s been some disappointing defeats and heartbreak off the pitch. The rollercoaster of emotions are part of what makes this Club special.

“I feel now is the right time to move on. Joining here five years ago was easily the best decision I’ve ever made in football, and leaving has easily been the hardest.

“Cliftonville owe me nothing and hopefully that feeling is mutual. It has been a privilege.”

Though disappointed he has decided against signing a new deal with the Reds, all at Cliftonville FC fully respect his choice and extend our gratitude for everything he has given us during his five years in north Belfast.
