To the Max

Danielle Maxwell believes that signing for Cliftonville Ladies is precisely the fresh start she was looking for.

The 20-year-old joined the Reds from Glentoran Women recently and, ahead of the new Danske Bank Women’s Premiership season, is looking forward to making a big impact in new surroundings.

“I felt I needed a new challenge and a fresh start,” explains the midfielder.

“I feel that Cliftonville was the best move for me as I already play with seven of the girls with Northern Ireland so I felt that I would be comfortable with the team.

“After last season, I think there is more expectation on not just Cliftonville but all the teams together as there are two new teams so that makes the League more competitive. From Cliftonville’s perspective, we have a big and strong squad, and the expectations are going to be high on all the players and as a team.”

The Reds kick their campaign off against Sion Swifts Ladies at Melvin Sports Complex tonight and, while the Tyrone outfit are familiar foes, Maxwell has welcomed the addition of Mid-Ulster Ladies and Lisburn Ladies to a revamped top flight.

“I feel that having eight teams instead of six will definitely make the League more competitive and gives us as a Club more competition.

“I also feel its good to give these other teams the opportunity to play in the top League.”
