It’s a go for Joe

Congratulations to Joe Gormley, who has been named March’s Danske Bank Player of the Month by the NI Football Writers’ Association.

The 32-year-old striker netted five times over the course of the month, emerging from the bench to inspire turnarounds against Coleraine in both the quarter-finals of the Samuel Gelston’s Whiskey Irish Cup and the following week’s League Cup Final as well as being on target in away wins over Glenavon and Dungannon Swifts.

After collecting his fifth such honour from NIFWA, Gormley – who trails only Glenn Ferguson and Gary Hamilton’s seven accolades – said: “I just want to play well for my team. If awards like this one come my way, it’s a bonus.

“The boys provide me with the chances, so they must take credit for this prize.”
