Cliftonville produced a stirring second-half performance to get the better of Glenavon in this afternoon's Danske Bank
Premiership encounter with Glenavon.
After an even opening 45 minutes, the Reds took a firm grip on proceedings from the moment Jason McGuinness
powered home the opening goal, with Ruairi Harkin and Davy McDaid adding to the scoresheet in a confident home
display.
Indeed, Gerard Lyttle's men were unfortunate not to take an early lead when Daniel Hughes' eighth minute strike
came back off the base of the post while, just minutes later, Cliftonville were aggrieved when Hughes was booked for
simulation after being barged over by Kris Lindsay inside the penalty area.
Midway through the first-half, Jaimie McGovern - elevated to the starting XI just minutes before kick-off when Chris
Ramsey suffered an injury during the warm-up - made a fantastic last-ditch intervention to stop Joel Cooper making
full contact with a close range shot after Andy Hall had nodded Eoin Bradley's cross into his path.
Bradley cracked a free-kick against the woodwork and, after the interval, the Reds threatened again when a
McGuinness drive was charged down by Kris Lindsay.
Jude Winchester was unable to capitalise on an error by Lindsay shortly afterwards and the Lurgan Blues almost
made their hosts pay when they carved out a series of quickfire opportunities; Peter Burke making excellent reaction
stops to deny Mark Sykes and Paddy McCourt, while McCourt sent a blistering effort just over the top.
The breakthrough came on 57 minutes when McGovern surged forward to receive Martin Donnelly's short corner and
delivered a wicked cross from which skipper McGuinness rose highest to nod beyond Tuffey's desperate grasp.
It was 2-0 soon later; the Glenavon keeper deceived by a deflection off Lindsay when Ruairi Harkin tried his luck from
distance.
Substitute McDaid scaled the bar after being teed up by Daniel Hughes but made no mistake when his next
opportunity presented itself, seizing on Linday's misjudged knock back to his own keeper and easily converting from
barely a yard out.
