Cliftonville romped to a Club Record victory to book comfortable progress to the Third Round of the NI Football League Cup at Lisburn Distillery's expense this evening. Davy McDaid and Stephen Garrett each claimed hat-tricks, with visiting defender Tyrell McCrory scoring an unfortunate own goal in addition to Chris Ramsey, Chris Curran, Jude Winchester and Gary Donnelly getting their names on the scoresheet. Though it took 29 minutes for the deadlock to be broken, the Reds had already seen a plethora of chances go to waste with Curran and Ross Lavery each rocking the crossbar within seconds of one another, while McDaid and Garrett blazed high and wide after being played into promising positions. Ramsey opened the scoring with his first goal for the Club when he rose above goalkeeper Jack McCrea to nod home from close range and, just minutes later, Winchester saw an attempt blocked on the line by Distillery skipper Stephen Curley after some neat build-up between Lavery and Garrett. McDaid made it 2-0 six minutes before half-time with a simple finish and, barely 60 seconds later, he completed a straightforward tap-in from Tomas Cosgrove's right-wing delivery. Just after half-time, McDaid completed his treble from the penalty spot after he had been bundled over by Padraig McParland before goalkeeper Peter Burke made a fine stop to thwart Jonathan McCaw's attempts to pull one back for the visitors. McDaid then saw one volley grasped by McCrea and another sail over the top before Lavery's 59th minute corner delivery ended with McCrory's inadvertent touch putting the ball into the back of his own net. Garrett made it 6-0 when he rounded the keeper after springing the offside trap from Cosgrove's assist and, though Mason McSorley reduced the arrears with a delightful dipping half-volley from distance, Cliftonville's relentless pursuit of goals continued; Curran rifling home after being teed up by Garrett. Winchester banked his first of the season with the aid of a deflection after receiving Lavery's corner on the edge of the area, with substitute Gary Donnelly stroking past McCrea to make it 9-1 with 11 minutes remaining. Garrett took the Reds into double figures after being teed up by Aaron Donnelly and, having equalled the Club's record victory score, the hosts duly registered a new milestone when Garrett wrapped up his treble with a free-kick in the contest's final minute.
