Cliftonville reached their fourth Irish Cup semi-final in seven seasons with a 2-0 victory over Portadown this evening.

After a goalless first-half that saw both sides rattle the woodwork – Sam Ashford clattering the post at one end before Eamon Fyfe did the same for the hosts – the Reds were denied by the woodwork again when Ronan Hale sent a strike against the crossbar.

The deadlock was eventually broken on 64 minutes, though, when Ports defender Luke Wilson turned Sean Stewart’s cross into his own net.

An offside flag then cut home celebrations short when Fyfe thought he had levelled, with Cliftonville making absolutely sure of things in the closing minutes when Ashford did well to win the ball in a dangerous area and feed Rory Hale out wide before meeting his delivery in the middle.
