Cliftonville 1-0 Glentoran
Joe Gormley’s inch-perfect finish was enough to guide Cliftonville past Glentoran in this evening’s County Antrim Shield Semi Final. After weathering an early storm, the Reds settled into proceedings and pulled ahead when Garry Breen’s searching free-kick delivery caught the visiting defence napping and Gormley stole in to beat out-rushing goalkeeper Elliott Morris with a wonderful left-footed lob. Breen was twice unfortunate not to double Cliftonville’s advantage before half-time, finding the side netting with one effort before arguing that a headed attempt had crossed the line before Morris intervened. Gormley and Chris Curran both tried their luck after the interval but, in truth, the best opportunity of the second period fell to Glentoran striker Darren Murray, who lashed wildly off target with a presentable opportunity 10 yards from goal. After seeing out a spell of pressure from the east Belfast side, the Reds held on to record yet another clean sheet and book their place in January’s decider with Ballymena United. Cliftonville: Brush, McDermott, Breen, Harney, C Curran, R Curran, McMenamin (Maguire, 58 mins), Bagnall, Doherty, Gormley, A Donnelly. Unused subs: Dunne, McKee, Foster, Wilson, Gorman, R Donnelly.
