Brace position

Three players bagged braces as Cliftonville Olympic maintained their lead at the top of the Premiership Development League courtesy of a 6-1 victory over Larne Olympic last night.

Mark Donnelly, Padraig Slane and Bailey Carroll all found the net twice as Brendan Lynch’s side made it 11 League outings unbeaten so far this season.

The deadlock was broken after just five minutes when Donnelly got on the end of Peter McKiernan’s corner to put the Reds in front – and the same player made the most of a Slane corner from the other side to make it 2-0 soon later.

Though Larne reduced the deficit, the visitors restored their two goal advantage before half-time when Slane’s low drive from the edge of the box found the net.

On the hour, Brendan Lynch’s side added to their tally when McKiernan teed Slane up to make it 4-1 ahead of Slane turning provider for Carroll to add the fifth.

Carroll would then complete his own double with a delightful strike into the top corner after good work from Stephen McGuinness and Seanna Foster as the Olympic preserved their six point lead at the table’s summit.
