Olympic’s best of five

Cliftonville Olympic increased their lead at the top of the Premiership Development League to six points with a 5-0 victory over Glentoran II at Solitude tonight.

Despite continuing their trait of getting out of the blocks early and taking control of the game, the Reds were grateful to Kyle Anderson for the goal-line clearance which prevented Glentoran from breaking the deadlock.

The ball was in the net at the other end on 25 minutes, however, when Michael Mervyn scored from the penalty spot after Peter McKiernan was felled inside the area.

Brendan Lynch’s side doubled their advantage through Lee O’Brien just before the break and, 10 minutes afer the turnaround, increased their lead further when Odhran Casey followed up to score after Dylan Snodden had seen his attempt blocked.

On the hour, a foul on Calvin McCurry earned a second spot kick of the night and, again, Mervyn made no mistake to make it 4-0 ahead of Paul Scullion wrapping things up just before the finish.
