Back in play

Ruaidhri Donnelly is looking forward to returning to action when Cliftonville host Glenavon in the Club’s first home game of the Danske Bank Premiership season this evening.

The 27-year-old, who featured in all four of the Reds’ Europa League fixtures this summer, sat out Saturday’s League opener at Coleraine through suspension but is raring to go make his mark.

“It’s not nice sitting out any game, especially the first game of the season,” he admits.

“Last year, we probably would have lost Saturday’s game. It shows the character of the boys that we haven’t lost it – we’re all together and it’s a good point for the opening game.”

On tonight’s challenge, he adds: “It will be a tough game, thankfully I’m available.”

You can read the full Donnelly interview in tonight’s edition of our Matchday Magazine, which will be on sale at Solitude for £3.

Featuring further tributes to Tommy Breslin, The Red Eye’s third issue of the campaign reviews Cliftonville’s pre-season programme, assesses the Lurgan Blues’ bid for more Premiership progress and steps 53, 36 and 29 years back down memory lane – plus plenty more besides.

Our Matchday Magazine has attained a top-three position in the NI Football Programme Collectors’ annual awards poll for the last eight seasons – assuming the runners-up position on six of those occasions – so, if you’re not a regular reader, why not take a look at what you’ve been missing out on?
