Ross-tinted evening

Ross Lavery hit another brace as Cliftonville Olympic got the better of Glentoran II in this evening’s Premiership Development League clash at The Oval.

Determined to prove a point in the wake of Saturday’s defeat to the same opponents, the Reds were rewarded for a bright start when Lavery – who scored twice in last week’s victory over Crusaders Reserves – broke the deadlock.

Lavery then scored from the penalty spot following a foul on Thomas Maguire to put the Olympic 2-0 up before half-time and, despite dominating the second period, the visitors had to wait until the closing minutes to add to their tally; Padraig Slane converting with a superb left-footed strike to complete a 3-0 triumph on the 110th anniversary of Cliftonville’s senior team losing to the Glens’ second string by the same scoreline in the 1909 County Antrim Shield Final.
