Out the window

The closure of the Transfer Window brought an end to some typically feverish movement and speculation right across the Irish League spectrum, with Cliftonville introducing two new faces and welcoming a familiar one back during January.

The month commenced with the formal registrations of Martin Donnelly, Ciaran Caldwell and Chris Ramsey – who departed the Reds in mid-December – at Bluefin Sport Championship side Larne in addition to former Dundalk midfielder Conor McDonald touching down at Solitude.

After nine appearances for the Reds, goalkeeper Brett Long returned to parent club Dundee United and has subsequently commenced a loan spell with Scottish League Two side Elgin City, with whom we naturally wish him well, while striker Daniel Hughes, who scored 16 times in 75 outings, moved to fellow Danske Bank Premiership side Dungannon Swifts.

His departure coincided with the return of young frontman Daniel Reynolds following a period on loan at Larne, ahead of experienced defender Shane Grimes putting pen to paper for the Club last week.
